School Policies
Attendance
Regular and punctual attendance is essential to a student's progress and, except in the case of sickness, students should not be kept away from school. Our attendance target is 93% but high standards of attendance depend on cooperation from parents. If a child is absent, we ask that you telephone our Attendance Officer on 0161 921 1516/1547 as soon as possible. Each student must bring a note of explanation when returning to school.
If a child is absent for a family holiday, a holiday request form should be completed. Holiday leave, of up to 10 days for a family holiday, is approved at the discretion of the Headteacher. Requests for holiday absence will only be approved if a student's attendance is above 90%. We urge parents, wherever possible, not to take holidays in term time.
To encourage high standards of attendance and to recognise achievement, certificates and prizes are presented to students with a high attendance record.
Students may not leave the school without permission. In the case of appointments for doctors, dentists etc, students should bring a note from a parent or carer or an appointment card. Students must always sign out of school at the Attendance Office, where they will be given a pass authorising them to leave school. If they return on the same day, students must sign back in.
Pastoral staff work closely with the Attendance Officer, and with the Education Welfare Service, to promote and encourage good attendance.
The Education Welfare Service is available to assist parents in matters concerning the welfare of their children, including problems involving school attendance, schemes of financial assistance and admission and transfer between schools.
