Dear Students

Inspection of HopeHigh School, Salford, M6 8GG

I would like to thank you for welcoming me and the other inspectors to your school

and being so friendly and courteous. I appreciate the time many of you gave to tell

us about your work and other activities. These were the things that I found out

during my visit.

The school provides you with a satisfactory education. The headteacher especially,

and the senior teachers, have worked very hard to make many improvements to the

school. You and your parents told us that HopeHigh School is now much better than

it was in the recent past. The curriculum is now more suited to your range of

interests and lessons are more interesting. The school environment is also much

improved and is now much smarter and brighter. As a result of these improvements

your behaviour and attendance is better, you have a more positive attitude to

learning and you are achieving more in lessons.

Your teachers provide strong care, guidance and support. You say you feel safe and

secure in school and that incidents of bullying have considerably reduced and are

dealt with effectively. There are opportunities for some of you to take on

responsibilities such as peer mentors and school ambassadors, which you do most

impressively.

Although you are now making satisfactory progress in lessons, your GCSE results are

still not high enough. We have asked the school to concentrate on improving the

quality of teaching and learning to raise standards and to make sure that all subjects

are equally well led and managed. Also, too many of you arrive late to school and

lessons and this is affecting your progress. You can help achieve these improvements

by arriving to school and to lessons on time and by continuing to work hard.

Thank you again. I wish you every success for the future.

Janet Palmer
