Religious Education

Religious Education is a unique and important part of children's learning. It leads to the development of personal views and belief and an understanding of those held by other people. Students are encouraged to search for the ultimate meaning and purpose of their existence and to recognise that there is a spiritual dimension to their lives by reflecting upon the beliefs and practices of the six major religions: Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Sikhism and Buddhism.

The Education Reform Act places Religious Education in the core curriculum of the school. It is therefore compulsory for every student throughout their school career. Parental right to withdraw their child from these lessons can be exercised with agreement from the Headteacher. An individual programme of study would be drawn up in these exceptional circumstances. At Hope High School we follow the Salford agreed syllabus, the aims of which are to enable students to:

  • appreciate the way that religious beliefs shape life and conduct
  • consider and make their own response to religious dimension in life
  • respect the religious convictions of others.
